! hour time zero

I'm after some clarity, do you take your time zero from risk on observations / trigger on NEWS. Or do you start the clock from the time the Dr has reviewed the patient and says treat as high risk sepsis?

Hi Sarah, we take TZ as the point of deterioration as documented by a NEWS2, PEWS or MEOWS. The senior review within an hour is part of the quality standard and NEWS2 guidance as well as having it's own CQUIN now too as there is a lot of evidence out there of delays in getting the Dr to attend to say treat as high risk sepsis - therefore it is safer to give a dose of IVAB for suspected sepsis & stop it if not required than to potentially waste time waiting for them to arrive.

Time Zero- the time which the patient triggers sepsis criteria for our guidance. Which ever is first, eg high news, lactate raised etc
