Paediatric Red Flags

Posted by - 16-10-2018, 10:00

Hi,

I am a new paediatric sepsis specialist nurse and we are looking at the design of our sepsis pathways currently in use. One issue that has been raised is the age bands for tachycardia and tachyponea miss certain ages for example 1-2ys>50, 3-4>40 - therefore where would child fit between 2-3?

Any advice from other peoples pathways or findings would be much appreciated as this is from the NICE guidelines and I've been unable to find any other information!

Thank you

Tracey Farley can you help at all?

Hi we took the view that up until the age of 3 so if they are 2 years and 11 months old they would still fit in the 1-2yr bracket. As soon as the are 3 they would then change in to the next range and the same for a child who is 4 yr 11 months old they would sit in the 3-4 yr bracket until their 5th birthday.

If you need any help on this more than happy,
    James

      Hi James,

Yes that is very helpful - thank you for your reply and sorry for the delay. Do you specialise in paediatric sepsis. I ask as I am relatively new to the post and keen to find out how the tool is implemented specifically within paediatrics and any barriers people face with it in the paediatric setting.

      Many thanks again,
      Claire
